What the guarantee is
When we finish a job, we give you a written guarantee covering our workmanship on that work for 10 years from the date of completion. It is our own promise, made directly to you. It is not insurance-backed, so it depends on Beacon Basingstoke Roofing being there to honour it. Your written guarantee document names the property, the work covered and the start date.
The guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, a service must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and nothing on this page takes away from that.
What it covers
The guarantee covers defects in the way we carried out the work described on your quote and invoice. For example:
- tiles or slates we fixed that slip because they were not fixed correctly;
- lead flashing we dressed that lifts or leaks because of how it was formed or fixed;
- a flat-roof membrane we laid that fails at a seam or upstand (the turned-up edge where a flat roof meets a wall) because of how it was installed;
- ridge, hip or verge components we fitted that come loose because of how they were fixed.
If one of our workmanship defects is confirmed, we put it right at no cost to you, including the labour and any access we need.
What it does not cover
- Storm and severe weather damage. Damage from weather beyond the normal conditions a roof should withstand, such as named storms, falling trees or flying debris, is a matter for your buildings insurance.
- Other trades' work. Satellite dishes, solar panels, aerials, alarms, cables or alterations fitted to the roof by anyone else, and any damage they cause.
- Later alterations. Work on the area we covered that has been altered, extended or repaired by someone other than us.
- Neglect and lack of maintenance. For example, gutters and valleys left blocked, moss left to build up, or damage from people walking on the roof.
- Existing structure and materials we did not replace. Parts of the roof or building outside the scope of our job, such as rafters, walls, chimneys or coverings we left in place, including where we advised on a defect and it was not taken up.
- Materials themselves. Manufacturer product warranties on tiles, membranes, roof windows and other materials are separate from our guarantee and are given by the manufacturer under its own terms. We will pass on the paperwork and help you make a claim under them.
- Normal wear. Weathering and the gradual ageing of materials that happens to every roof.
How to make a claim
- Contact us by email at info@beaconbasingstokeroofing.co.uk or by phone on 01256 213956 as soon as you notice a problem. Tell us the address, roughly when the work was done, and what you have seen. Photographs help.
- Limit the damage. If water is coming in, take reasonable steps such as putting down buckets and moving belongings. Please do not have someone else alter the work before we have seen it, unless it is an emergency.
- We inspect. We arrange a visit, look at the problem, photograph it and tell you what we have found and why.
- We put it right. If the cause is a defect in our workmanship, we repair it under the guarantee. If it is not, we explain the cause with photographs and, if you want, quote for the repair.
Conditions
- The guarantee takes effect once the work has been paid for in full.
- It applies only to the work described on your quote and invoice for the property named on the guarantee.
- It passes to a new owner of the property only if your written guarantee document says it is transferable. If it does not, it stays with the person who commissioned the work.
To see how the guarantee fits with our wider terms, read our terms and conditions.
